On November 15, 2024, Elder Mary K. Magee went home peacefully to Jesus with her loved ones by her side.
Elder Magee was born September 26, 1954, in Carroll County, Mississippi to the late Charlie Hundley and Willie B. (Christion) Lewis Hundley. Mary attended Rebecca A. Reed Elementary School in Holcomb, MS, and graduated from Grenada High School in May 1972.
During Elder Magee’s early teenage years she attended Prospect MB Church in Holcomb where she accepted Christ as her personal Savior under the pastorship of Reverend Rudolph Hobbs. She served as Sunday Bible School secretary and treasurer at Prospect.
Elder Magee moved to Joliet, Illinois in November 1972 where she joined the Church of the Living God, the Pillar and Ground of the Truth Inc. Elder Magee’s spiritual journey started as the Sunday Bible School secretary. She was appointed as assistant secretary to Elder Earlie Mae Hardwick. In 1974 she was appointed trial deacon and ordained in August 1976 during the Church’s Annual General Assembly in Nashville, Tennessee. Following that Elder Magee’s spiritual journey included being appointed as a missionary in January 1981 serving as local church secretary, Sunday Bible School Superintendent, and class number two teacher at the local church in Joliet.
In 1984, during the General Assembly, Elder Magee God led her to move from Joliet, Illinois to West Palm Beach, Florida where she resided in the home with the Chief Overseer. In 1985, her membership was officially transferred to the local chapter in Riviera Beach, Florida. Under Bishop Lewis, she was appointed branch office secretary, personal helper, and secretary to the Chief Overseer. Missionary Magee acknowledged her call to the ministry in August 1991.Elder Magee completed her two-year basic ministry and she was ordained a reverend in 1992 during the Annual General Assembly. Elder Magee was ordained as Elder on August 3, 1997, in Nashville, Tennessee under Bishop Luke D. Lewis, pastor and bishop H.M. Lewis, District Bishop and Chief Overseer. Elder Magee served on the Annual Calendar committee and was recognized for her outstanding work.. She also received recognitions from the Illinois Annual Women’s Conference, Tuskegee Institute of Religion and Sacred Music, and the St. Mary Magdalena Tate Academy of Religion. After returning to Mississippi in 2002, she did not stop working for the Lord. She gave those soul-stirring testimonies of the various miracles God had worked in her life and her family. Elder Magee dedicated her life to service.
Elder Magee enjoyed cooking, sewing, cake decorating, traveling, and visiting the elderly.
Elder Magee was preceded in death by her parents Mr. Charley (Mother Willie B.)Hundley and her husband Willie Lyndell Magee, Brothers Charles Willie Hundley and John Henry Hundley, and sister Theresa (Hundley) Wade. Elder Magee is survived by her siblings: Two brothers James (Vivian) Lewis; Tyree (Wendy) Hundley of Illinois and four sisters Annie Ruth Williams, GA; Mamie (Forrest) Nelson; Dorothy (Raymond) Perry; Pearlie Hundley all of Illinois, and host of nieces and nephews.
