Maudie Wilson Obituary

It is with our most profound condolences that the Clark-Williams Funeral Home Family announces the passing of Mrs. Maudie Lee Wilson of Grenada, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018 at her residence.

Mrs. Maudie Lee Avery Wilson was born to Henry Avery and Matilda Newman Avery on June 26, 1920 in Vaiden, Mississippi and grew up in Glenwild, Mississippi.
Mrs. Wilson attended Ford School through grade six and Bethlehem Baptist Church where she met David Wilson.  They were united in holy matrimony on August 19, 1939.  They moved to Grenada and joined Powell Chapel A.M.E. Church in 1940.  She was a faithful member for 78 years and raised their twelve children in the Christian faith there.  At one time she also served as a stewardess.
Mrs. Wilson spent her life raising and training her children in the way they should go:  to church, to school, to work, to college, and to a career.  Besides being a wife, a mother, and a homemaker she was also an entrepreneur providing child care for over one hundred infants and children in their home over the years.
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. David Wilson, Sr.; her parents, Henry and Matilda Neman Avery; a daughter, Matilda Jane Wilson; a granddaughter, Shana Deltrice Wilson; a step grandson, Reginald Moore; sisters, Henry Belle Crowder, Dorothy Jean Brown, Rosezea Wilson, Bernice Porter, Lucille Brown; brothers, Tommie Lee Avery, Adolph Avery, Talmadge Avery; daughters-in-law, Esther Wilson and Lujean Wilson; sons-in-law, Jeffery Owen Freelon and James House II.
Mrs. Maudie Lee Wilson lived a long, beautiful life and had some health issues late in life.  She was born into eternal life at 3:57 p.m. on Monday, March 26, 2018 at the age of 97 years and 9 months.  She leaves to cherish her memories: five daughters, Maudie Louise Wilson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Lucy Bell (John) Crowder of San Diego, California, Ann Althea House of Grenada, Mississippi, Rev. Sheila Wilson Freelon and Lynette Carol Wilson of Chicago, Illinois; seven sons, George Henry Wilson, Sr. of Fresno, California, David Wilson, Jr. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Talmadge Ellis (Dolores) Wilson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Jacksonville, Florida, Lee Russell (Velsie) Wilson of Lancaster, California, Joseph (Rosie) Wilson of Grenada, Mississippi, Norman Haze (Cheryl) Wilson, Sr. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Marvin Durrell Wilson, Sr. of Grenada, Mississippi; thirty Grandchildren and twenty-two Great-Grandchildren; ten Great Great-Grandchildren; two sisters, Autrie Lee Brownlee of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Ell Mae (R.V.)
